Education is an integral part of our vision and goals at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac). Education of both artists and audience is essential and goes hand in hand with the comprehensive facilities at KLPac to develop the performing arts.
The study of performing arts develops awareness of body, mind and space; it aids creative thinking, builds confidence, listening skills, discipline, a sense of respect and many other skills that can be applied in our daily lives. It also helps to train and hone the skills of those wishing to pursue their interest in this field.
The Academy has nine well equipped studios of varying sizes for its courses as well as rehearsals. Teachers are experienced theatre practitioners with the requisite skills to teach adults as well as teenagers and children.
Community OutReach
It also runs a crucial Community OutReach programme (CORe) which enables members of the underprivileged community to experience the magic of the performing arts. Over 600 individuals have benefited from this programme via hands on workshops and activities. klpac has enabled 3000 more to experience live performances.
klpac Sinfonietta
In 2006, klpac set up its own community orchestra, the klpac Sinfonietta. Apart from providing ongoing training and performing opportunities for music students and aspiring musicians, klpac hopes to provide an enriching and engaging musical experiences for people with varying musical backgrounds, in an environment that promotes fellowship and respect.
Theatre for Young People (T4YP)
In 2008, klpac launched a groundbreaking Theatre for Young People (T4YP) programme which aims to provide a platform for young people to express themselves by creating meaningful theatre. Essential to T4YP is the idea of building a close-knit community of young theatre practitioners who feel safe to explore and experiment within the boundaries of an established ensemble. The programme is led by klpac’s Director in-Residence, Christopher Ling.
